KU Leuven is a renowned research-intensive university in Belgium, known for its high academic standards, innovation, and strong international outlook. Three research groups from KU Leuven are actively involved in the RADAR project. The Centre for Sustainable Catalysis and Engineering (CSCE), led by prof. Bert Sels, together with the pilot biorefinery facility BIOCON, is dedicated to further developing patented technologies for converting biomass into valuable lignin oil and lignin-derived templates, and explore new possibilities through molecular design. The Molecular Biodiscovery Department, led by Prof. Daniëlle Copmans, and the TRANSFARM facility contribute to hazard assessment using complementary fish bioassays, including New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) with zebrafish embryos and killifish. These approaches support the evaluation of environmental and health risks of novel substances. KU Leuven is honoured to coordinate the RADAR project, continuing its multidisciplinary research vision built over the past decade. This integrated effort reflects KU Leuven’s commitment to sustainability, innovation, and scientific excellence.
