At GECCO Biotech, we are developing new biocatalytic routes within the RADAR project to convert lignin oil into the high-value chemicals, isoeugenol and ferulic acid. We leverage our optimized platforms for enzyme production, in parallel screening, and design of experiments (DoE) to rapidly develop improved biocatalysts for these transformations. Our primary objective is to efficiently scale the synthesis from laboratory milligrams to industrial kilogram quantities, replacing conventional chemical methods with a more sustainable alternative. Together with project partners, we are unlocking the full potential of these lignin-derived phenolics (LDPs).This work establishes a renewable, bio-based supply chain for critical building blocks used in flame retardants, epoxy resins, and surfactants. Through our efforts in applied biocatalysis, we are actively accelerating the transition toward green chemistry and circular bioeconomy.
