Allnex is a global leader in Industrial Coating Resins. Its role within- RADAR is to investigate the use of lignin fractions in the phenolics product range. Allnex will synthesize epoxidized bisguaiacols and convert them to epoxy resins for can coating applications. Together with AB InBev (world leader in canned beers and beverages) we will formulate, apply and evaluate these coatings and benchmark them with existing coating systems.
The expectation is to find a suitable replacement for Bisphenol A, an important raw material for several product families that is becoming more and more banned from utilization.
The toxicological comparison of these bisguaiacols vs. Bisphenol A is a major objective of RADAR.
At the same time the biobased fraction of the produced coating resins can be substantially increased; this is a major corporate objective to reduce the company’s carbon foot print.
